Abstract This invention relates to a double hung window assembly. The assembly includes a frame and a pair of counterbalanced sashes arranged within the frame. An operating mechanism is adapted to facilitate counterbalanced movement of the sashes between respective open and closed positions. A control means is operatively associated with the operating mechanism and adapted to enable movement of the operating mechanisms between a first position in which the sashes are in the respective closed positions and a venting position in which one of the sashes is moved relative to the other sash to provide a vent opening, whilst the other sash remains closed.
