The present invention relates generally to tactile ground surfaces indicators, as applied to or built into walking surfaces to provide directional information and/or warnings to vision impaired pedestrians. In one form, the invention is directed to a tactile ground surface indicator comprising: a substantially planar base portion having a lower surface configured to contact a substrate, and an upper surface having a series of tactile projections extending therefrom, each of the tactile projections having a broad upper surface, the upper surface of the planar base portion and/or the broad upper surface of each of the tactile projections being contoured, and a coloured layer applied to at least the broad upper surface of each of the tactile projections and/or the upper surface of the base portion, wherein the contours present on the upper surface of the planar base portion and/or the broad upper surface of each of the tactile projections so as to reduce the propensity for a person to slip thereon. 40a 35
