The invention relates to an yttrium aluminum red ceramic pigment and a preparation method thereof, belonging to the technical field of ceramic pigment processing. The yttrium aluminum red ceramic pigment is prepared from the following components in parts by weight: 40-80 parts of Y2O3, 20-50 parts of Al2O3, 30-60 parts of CaCO3, 1-10 parts of Cr2O3 and 1-10 parts of CaF2. The preparation method for the yttrium aluminum red ceramic pigment comprises the following steps: accurately weighing the components after drying and pre-treating the components, putting the components on a planetary mill for milling for 30 minutes, transferring the uniformly-mixed wet materials into a 100ml high-aluminum crucible, putting the 100ml high-aluminum crucible into an electric heating air dry oven for drying, putting into a high-temperature tank type resistance furnace for melting after drying, naturally cooling a test sample to the room temperature after melting, soaking the molten test sample into water or low-concentration acid, performing water-washing or acid-washing for enabling the test sample to be neutral, re-drying the test sample, roughly crushing the dried test sample, putting the roughly crushed test sample into an aluminum oxide milling tank to perform fine crushing until residues on a sieve with ten thousands of holes is less than 5%, and re-drying, thereby obtaining the yttrium aluminum red ceramic pigment. The yttrium aluminum red ceramic pigment is low in manufacturing cost, simple in process, pure in color and good in thermal stability.
