The invention relates to a pressurelessly-sintered silicon carbide foamed ceramic. A uniform ceramic slurry comprises the following components by weight: 100 parts of a main material, 0.1 to 1.5 parts of a dispersant, 0.1 to 1.5 parts of a plasticizer, 0.1 to 1.5 parts of carboxymethyl cellulose, 10 to 45 parts of a binder and 0.1 to 1.5 parts of an antifoaming agent. The main material is prepared from the following components through mixing: 95 to 99 wt% of silicon carbide powder, 0.5 to 4.5 wt% of boron carbide powder and sugar, wherein the amount of carbon residue of the sugar after ablation accounts for 1.5 to 9.5% of the weight of the silicon carbide powder. The invention further provides a preparation method for the ceramic. The method mainly comprises the following steps: preparing the slurry through ball milling; and preparing the silicon carbide foamed ceramic with silicon carbide solid content of 97.5 to 99.5% by using a pressureless sintering method. The preparation method has the advantages of simple steps, high security, economic performance and environment friendliness. The silicon carbide foamed ceramic has the characteristics of high solid content and good compactness.
