The invention relates to the technical field of oil well cement paste, and discloses heat preservation cement paste and a preparation method thereof. The heat preservation cement paste is prepared from oil well cement paste and heat preservation materials. The mass of the heat preservation materials accounts for 5-20% that of cement in the oil well cement paste. According to the heat preservation cement paste, existing well cementation cement paste is improved, the heat preservation materials are added, and the heat conductive coefficient of a cement sheath is lowered. By the adoption of the heat preservation cement paste, energy used for thickened oil thermal recovery well steam injection mining, the heat efficiency is improved, heat losses produced in a thickened oil thermal recovery well are reduced, energy is saved, and environmental pollution caused by energy consumption is reduced. It is shown that the heat preservation cement paste can obviously decrease the heat conductive coefficient of set cement, reduce heat losses and meet on-site mining requirement.
