The invention discloses a river ecological bank protection system formed by triangular pyramidal wood pile stone cage frames. First and second type wood pile stone cage frames are respectively fixed in a non-turning place and a turning place of a river channel, and respectively consist of three wood piles, gravels and nylon nets; a large gravel layer and a small gravel layer are arranged in the first type wood pile stone cage frame; and a large gravel layer, a small gravel layer, a ceramic particle layer and a charcoal coating layer are arranged in the second type wood pile stone cage frame. The construction method comprises the steps of: a) embedding of wood piles; b) binding of the wood piles; c) setting of nylon nets; d) filling of the first type wood pile stone cage frame; e) filling of the second type wood pile stone cage frame; f) planting of aquatic plants; and g) setting of artificial aquatic plants. The river bank protection system and the construction method thereof achieve an effect of river bank protection, and enhance the river self-purifying capacity and the multi-natural landscapes through an absorbing effect of the ceramic particle layer and the charcoal coating layer on nitrogen, phosphor and organic matters in water.
