The invention discloses a viscosity reduction type polycarboxylate superplasticizer and a preparation method thereof. The viscosity reduction type polycarboxylate superplasticizer is prepared from thefollowing components in parts by mass: 340 to 350 parts of a polyether macromonomer, 30 to 40 parts of maleic anhydride, 4 to 5 parts of sodium hypophosphite, 4 to 7 parts of an adhesion promoter, 3.0 to 6.0 parts of potassium persulfate, 0.5 to 0.8 part of a reducing agent and the balance of water, and the total mass is 1000 parts, and the solid content is about 40%. According to the invention,acrylic acid which is a synthetic raw material of a traditional polycarboxylate superplasticizer is replaced by the adhesion promoter, the adhesion promoter is used as a short side chain, and phosphoric acid and silane structures of the adhesion promoter have strong polarity, so that molecules of the superplasticizer are initially and firmly adsorbed on the surfaces of cement particles; free waterbetween a molecular chain and cement particles is discharged by using a maleic anhydride cyclic structure and a hydrophobic property, so that the content of free water in the system is increased andthe viscosity of the system is reduced.
