The invention discloses an assembly building block and an ecological retaining wall formed by the same. On one hand, the assembly building block comprises a building block body, wherein an inner cavity used for planting plants is arranged in the building block body, the upper end of the inner cavity is opened, and the two sides, corresponding to a wall surface and a wall back, of the building block body are respectively and correspondingly provided with a first opening or a second opening used for planting plants and contacting the plants with soil on the wall back; and the first opening and the second opening respectively communicate with the inner cavity, wherein the first opening is arranged at the lower end of the side wall of the building block body, and the second opening is arrangedat the upper end of the side wall of the building block body, so that a front-back through planting structure is formed on the inner cavity through the first opening and the second opening. On the other hand, the invention also provides an ecological retaining wall. The soil retaining effect and the ecological function can be improved, the cost is saved, and use is convenient.
