The invention provides a building external heat insulation structure which is simple in structure and convenient to construct and a construction method thereof. The building external heat insulation structure comprises an external heat insulation material arranged on a building structure main body, prefabricated external heat insulation concrete blocks are arranged outside the external heat insulation material, and every two adjacent external heat insulation concrete blocks are in contact connection; and the prefabricated external heat insulation concrete blocks, the external heat insulation material and the building structure main body are connected into a whole to form the building external heat insulation structure. The construction method comprises the following steps that (1) the prefabricated external heat insulation concrete blocks are manufactured, and preserved holes are formed in the prefabricated external heat insulation concrete blocks; (2) horizontal steel bars are embedded or planted to the building structure main body; (3) the external heat insulation material is tightly attached to the outer wall face of the building structure main body, and the horizontal steel bars penetrate through the external heat insulation material; (4) the prefabricated external heat insulation concrete blocks are arranged on the external heat insulation material, and the horizontal steel bars penetrate through the preserved holes; and (5) the prefabricated external heat insulation concrete blocks are fixed.
