The invention relates to the technical field of castables for tundishes and particularly relates to a tundish castable and a preparation method thereof. The tundish castable is prepared from the following components in percentage by mass: 70 percent to 85 percent of bauxite aggregate, 1 percent to 6 percent of mullite, 4 percent to 6 percent of aluminum oxide micro powder, 2 percent to 3 percent of silicon micro powder, 2 percent to 3 percent of cement, 2 percent to 3 percent of magnesia carbon bricks, 0.1 percent to 0.15 percent of additives and the balance of water. According to the tundishcastable provided by the invention, the alpha alumina micro powder, the magnesia carbon bricks and the like are added, and meanwhile, bauxite aggregates with different component ratios and different particle size gradients are mobilized, so that the castable is more uniformly mixed, the melting point and the boiling point of the castable are greatly increased by the alpha alumina micro powder, andthe heat resistance of the castable is enhanced; the magnesia carbon brick can increase the fusion degree of all the components of the castable and improve the viscosity of the castable and the tundish, and the thermal expansion coefficient is small, so that the tundish castable is not prone to chapping.
