The invention discloses a large lattice protecting unit suitable for a swelling soil side slope. The unit is of a rectangular frame structure and is provided with four rod pieces, the sections of which are rectangular. The rod pieces are prefabricated rod pieces, permeable holes which extend in the width directions of the prefabricated rod pieces are formed in the prefabricated rod pieces, the twointerconnected prefabricated rod pieces are connected through a cylindrical connecting pile, and arc-shaped groove joints matched with the cylindrical connecting piles are arranged at two ends of theprefabricated rod pieces. The invention further discloses a side slope protecting structure which uses the large lattice protecting unit. A quadrilateral large lattice is divided into four relativelylight prefabricated rod pieces, so that transportation and assembling construction are facilitated. On the other hand, in the construction process, the four prefabricated rod pieces are assembled into a large hollow lattice structure which can provide an advantageous water and soil conserving condition to plant growth according to advantages that the hollow lattice structure is large in size andlarge in thickness, and can contain enough planting soil.
