The viscosity reduction type polycarboxylate superplasticizer has a pH value of 5.5-6, and is prepared from the following raw materials: HPEG, unsaturated carboxylic acid and derivatives thereof, unsaturated carboxylic acid alkyl ester, quaternary ammonium salt monomers, a cross-linking agent, an initiator, a reducing agent, a chain transfer agent, liquid caustic soda and deionized water. According to the invention, the HPEG, the specific unsaturated carboxylic acid and derivatives thereof and the specific quaternary ammonium salt monomers are used as basic raw materials, through the molecular structure design of main and side chain groups and the like, the workability of concrete can be improved under the condition of keeping the fluidity of cement paste, the viscosity value is effectively reduced, the fluidity is improved, and adverse effects on the mechanical properties of the concrete are avoided.
