The invention relates to a green roof structure and a construction method thereof. The green roof structure comprises a roof structural layer and further comprises a waterproof heat-preservation layer, a protective isolation layer, a solid water drainage and storage layer, a soil-isolating layer, a soil-isolating baffle, a hilling layer and a plant layer. The plant layer comprises herbaceous plantseeds and crassulaceae plant seedlings. The green roof structure is an energy-saving and environment-friendly system utilizing plants planted on a roof top plate to hinder solar energy so as to prevent a room from overheating. The principle of the green roof structure is that through laying construction of all the layers such as the protective isolation layer, the water drainage and storage layer, the soil-isolating layer, the hilling layer and the plant layer, a heat-insulation, anti-seepage, environment-friendly and energy-saving overall covering roof system is formed. The green roof structure has the characteristics that the construction speed is high, the cost is low, the weight is low, maintenance is hardly needed, and the number of checking times is small.
