The invention provides a method for preparing ceramsite by mixing municipal domestic sludge and shale. The method comprises the following steps: mixing and aging raw materials; stirring and mixing municipal domestic sludge and shale powder with the fineness smaller than or equal to 80 meshes and the water content smaller than 3% according to the proportion of 20-25% of sludge and 75-80% of shale powder; feeding the fully and uniformly mixed materials into a three-dimensional aging warehouse, and aging, so that the plasticity of the raw materials is improved, wherein the moisture content of theaged mixed material is 16-18%; granulating a semi-finished product; putting the aged mixture in the step 1 into a granulator, and carrying out extrusion granulation to obtain pellets; roasting the ceramsite; and feeding the dried pellets into a ceramsite rotary kiln, and carrying out high-temperature firing, wherein raw pellets enter from a kiln tail low-temperature section and flow out from a kiln head high-temperature section, the temperature of the pellets is gradually increased from low temperature, when the temperature reaches 1150-1250 DEG C, firing is completed, and the fired ceramsiteclinker is cooled and can be packaged and sold. According to the invention, the problems of low sludge ratio, low municipal sludge consumption and high production cost in the conventional sludge ceramsite are solved.
