The production process comprises the following steps of A, grinding and crushing silicon powder until D90 is 6mum, B, loading the ground silicon powder into a sagger, wherein the loading thickness is 15-30 mm, C, stacking a plurality of saggars filled with the silicon powder into a pile up and down, wherein the sum of the thicknesses of the silicon powder in the saggars in the stacked pile is less than or equal to 300 mm, D, putting a plurality of stacks of saggars filled with silicon powder into a vacuumheating furnace, E, pumping the air pressure of the vacuum heating furnace to 100 Pa or below, F, introducing nitrogen to 60 kPa, G, carrying out a heating reaction, and H, closing the system heating, and cooling the vacuum heating furnace to reduce the temperature of the system to normal temperature within 15-20 hours, and I, taking out a reaction product, crushing and grinding into powder. By adopting the process provided by the invention, the silicon nitride powder with the alpha-phase content of more than 95% can be obtained.
