The novel ecological building block retaining wall comprises a foundation and a pile foundation arranged on the lower portion of the foundation; a gravel sand filling layer is arranged on the upper portion of the foundation, a ground beam is arranged on the upper portion of the gravel sandfilling layer, bottom building blocks are arranged on the upper portion of the ground beam, multiple layers of main body ecological building blocks are laid on the bottom building blocks in a stackedmode, a top building block is arranged at the top of each main body ecological building block, and a concrete capping layer is arranged at the top of each top building block; each main body ecologicalbuilding block comprises a convex block arranged at the uppermost part, a top block connected with the lower part of the convex block, and a first side wall and a second side wall which are arrangedon two sides of the top block; a first groove is formed among the first side wall, the second side wall and the top block; and a third side wall and a fourth side wall are arranged at the bottoms of the first side wall and the second side wall correspondingly. According to the novel ecological building block retaining wall and the construction method thereof, the practicability is high, operationis quite easy, the flood prevention and drainage capacity, the landscaping effect and the ecological protection function can be improved and enhanced while it is ensured that the construction is easyand convenient and the cost is saved.
