The invention belongs to the technical field of parking space sharing and parking robots, and discloses a parking robot-based overall parking space sharing system and a control method. The system comprises a parking space sharing terminal, an access control unit, a parking space exchange detection unit, a parking robot, a parking robot controller, a timing unit, a charging unit and a master controller. The number of parking spaces available for parking space sharing in the parking lot is obtained by calculating the number of currently unoccupied parking spaces according to a predetermined proportion. The parking robot is adopted to carry the vehicle, and a parking space owner does not need to specifically manage or install equipment such as a parking space lock; the parking space renter can only enter the parking exchange space, so that the safety is ensured; the owner of the parking space can park the vehicle in time at any time; after the preset parking time is exceeded, the vehicle of the parking space lessee cannot be moved out of the parking lot immediately, and the vehicle can be driven away after the parking space lessee takes the vehicle; and various disputes caused by the fact that the parking space is not occupied according to the parking space sharing agreement are avoided.
