The invention relates to a magnesium-calcium material taking phosphate tailings as a main raw material and a preparation method of the magnesium-calcium material. According to the technical scheme, the method comprises the following steps: firstly, keeping the temperature of phosphate tailing powder at 1050-1150 DEG C for 2-4 hours, and cooling to obtain light burnt powder; mixing 90 to 98 weight percent of the light burnt powder and 2 to 10 weight percent of magnesia powder, and molding; and keeping the temperature at 1600-1700 DEG C for 2-5 hours, and cooling to obtain the magnesium-calcium material taking the phosphate tailings as the main raw material. The particle size of the phosphate tailing powder is 1-200 [mu]m; and the phosphorus tailing powder contains less than or equal to 2wt% of P2O5, more than or equal to 18wt% of MgO and more than or equal to 28wt% of CaO. The particle size of the magnesia fine powder is 1-200 [mu]m; the MgO content of the magnesia fine powder is greater than or equal to 96wt%. According to the invention, the resource utilization can be improved, the process is simple, the cost is low and the environment-friendly effect is realized, and the prepared magnesium-calcium material taking the phosphate tailings as the main raw material is good in hydration resistance, high in refractoriness, low in phosphorus content and large in volume density, and is a high-quality raw material for preparing high-temperature ceramics and refractory materials.
