Disclosed are an electric vehicle door opener and a method for pivoting a vehicle door relative to a vehicle body. The electric door opener system includes: an opener assembly which has a housing mounted to one of the vehicle body and the door, and has a retractable member, an actuator, and a latch mechanism. The actuator is used to actuate the movement of the telescopic member between a retracted position and an extended position, The latch mechanism is used to engage with a striker pin installed to the other of the vehicle body and the door. The opener also comprises a controller used to control the opener assembly to move the telescopic member between the retracted position and the extended position. The controller is used to control the latch mechanism to engage and disengage the latch pin.
