The invention discloses a construction method for a water storage area of a shallow-buried underground reservoir of a strip mine dump. The construction method comprises the steps that seepage prevention is conducted on the bottom of the water storage area; geotechnical cloth is laid; upper-layer mining associated clay is laid for seepage prevention; the glutenite is screened; finely crushed glutenite is used for bottoming; large-particle-size glutenite, medium-particle-size glutenite and small-particle-size glutenite are sequentially laid above the fine crushed glutenite from bottom to top according to the particle size from large to small; a top moisture slow-seepage layer is laid; a surface soil layer is laid; and earth surface vegetation is planted. According to the construction method, and the problem of non-uniform seasonal distribution of strip mine water resources is solved; a water resource utilization transfer place can be provided for the deep underground reservoir, and reasonable and safe allocation of water resources is guaranteed; and the mining associated substrate is fully utilized, the mining associated clay and the glutenite are utilized in a resource mode, and land occupation caused by piling is reduced.
