The invention discloses a basalt handicraft material and a preparation method thereof, and relates to the field of handicraft manufacturing. The material comprises the components in parts by weight: 90 to 110 parts of a basalt material, 40 to 60 parts of a siliceous material, 50 to 70 parts of a calcium material, 5 to 10 parts of an iron material, 0.1 to 0.5 part of a magnesium material, 1 to 5 parts of a sodium material, 0.5 to 1.5 parts of a potassium material, and 3 to 9 parts of an argillaceous material. Basalt is used as a main raw material for manufacturing the domestic ceramic handicraft, high-temperature firing is equivalent to secondary melting combustion of basalt, and a traditional ceramic manual manufacturing method with seventy-two procedures is adopted in the process; and manual drawing and special-shaped treatment are combined, the domestic ceramic handicraft with local characteristics and high practicability is created, and the blank of the basalt raw material in the field of manufacturing of the domestic ceramic handicraft is filled. The produced domestic ceramic handicraft has the advantages of being natural, environment-friendly, healthy, practical, elegant and the like.
