The invention particularly relates to a method for preparing a magnesium oxysulfate building material by using boric sludge. The method comprises the following steps: pretreating the boric sludge; boric sludge acidification pretreatment: adding a sulfuric acid solution into boric sludge, and stirring for reaction to obtain a magnesium sulfate mixture; preparing the magnesium oxysulfate building material: uniformly stirring light calcined magnesia, iron tailings and fly ash, adding a modifier, a curing agent and the magnesium sulfate mixture in the step 2, uniformly stirring, and finally pouring into a mold for molding and curing to obtain the magnesium oxysulfate building material. According to the method for preparing the building material by using the boric sludge, the boric sludge, the waste sulfuric acid, the iron tailings, the coal ash and other industrial wastes are utilized to prepare the magnesium oxysulfate cement, so that the production cost of the magnesium oxysulfate cement is reduced, and the utilization value of the industrial wastes is developed.
