An external T-shaped steel symmetrical reinforcing structure of an existing steel pipe column comprises a beam column joint arranged on the existing steel pipe column, wherein the portion, below the beam column joint, of the existing steel pipe column is a lower column. The existing steel pipe column above the beam column joint is an upper column, the lower column and the upper column are provided with a plurality of pieces of external T-shaped steel in the column height direction, the external T-shaped steel is arranged in an axial symmetry mode at equal angles, the arrangement angles of the external T-shaped steel on the sections of the lower column and the upper column are kept in one-to-one correspondence, a plurality of pieces of beam column joint stiffening T-shaped steel are arranged on the beam column joint, and the arrangement angle of the beam-column joint stiffening T-shaped steel is consistent with that of the external T-shaped steel; and stiffening ribs are symmetrically arranged on a frame beam connecting web of the beam-column joint. According to the method, the existing steel pipe column is utilized and is symmetrically reinforced through the external T-shaped steel, so that the section characteristics of the existing steel pipe column can be effectively increased, including the inertia moment, the resisting moment and the area of the section, and the bearing capacity and the lateral stiffness of the reinforced steel pipe column are remarkably improved.
