Falling brake device
An integrated climbing assistance and fall braking system and method to assist a user in climbing ladders and vertical paths is disclosed. The integrated system includes a controller connected to a user's tether, a fixed fall brake cable, and a movable climb assist strap. The connection of the fall braking component and the climbing assistance component may include physical connection, electronic connection, communication, or any combination thereof. The climb assist strap can be driven by a motor to provide an upward climb assist force to a user along a vertical path. The motor can be dynamically adjusted to continuously provide a certain degree of climbing assistance. The integrated controller is also configured to mechanically detect downward movement and engage the overspeed brake mechanism when a threshold speed or acceleration is detected.
