The method comprises the following steps that A1, the terrain of the sand land is trimmed, a plurality of strip-shaped protruding sand ridges are formed on the sand land, and strip-shaped concave planting areas are formed between the adjacent sand ridges; a2, the sand ridge is covered with sand stabilization grids to reinforce the sand ridge; step A3, putting a water-retaining agent along the planting area; and step A4, planting drought-enduring plants in the planting area. Compared with the prior art, the water retention planting method for sand land greening is convenient to operate, economical and feasible, and does not generate potential environmental risks. By means of the water retention planting method, the long-term survival rate of sand land greening can be effectively increased, the sand land is gradually improved, and vegetation coverage is gradually restored.
