A method for forming a refractory material is disclosed, comprising the steps of: placing a core material (12) into a granulation device (16); operating the granulation device (16) to shape the core material into granules (16); adding a coating material (18) into the granulation device (16); operating the granulation device (16) such that a layer (20) of coating material (18) covering the particles (16) is formed; the coated particles (22) are then heated. The invention also discloses a material manufactured by using the method.
