The invention discloses an insulation board and a preparation method thereof. Relates to an insulation board with expanded perlite as a main material and a preparation method thereof. The defects that in the prior art, the cement mixing amount is high, the compression ratio is large, the material production cost is high, the water glass reaction degree is low, and the humidity and heat resistance of materials is poor are overcome. The invention discloses an alkali-activated thermal insulation material which comprises the following components in percentage by mass: 65-75% of expanded perlite, 10% of fibers, 15-25% of a cementing material and 0.1% of a water repellent, and the cementing material is an alkali-activated cementing material which takes water glass as an exciting agent and takes slag-fly ash-steel slag composite micro powder as a raw material. According to the invention, the characteristics of fast setting and hardening, high early-age strength and the like of the alkali-activated cementing material are combined, the alkali-activated cementing material is used as a cementing raw material to prepare the expanded perlite insulation board, and the expanded perlite is subjected to proper'pre-saturated water 'treatment, so that the water content in the material at the initial stage of'drying' is increased, and the'curing 'stage and the'drying' stage in the traditional process are combined into one.
