The invention discloses a method for preparing a gel material from coal gangue and a composite material, and the method comprises the following steps: crushing coal gangue, gypsum solid waste and limestone, and uniformly mixing to form a first mixture; the first mixture is fired within a first temperature range, and clinker is obtained after firing is completed; crushing and uniformly mixing the coal gangue, the red mud and the gypsum to form a second mixture; the second mixture is fired in a second temperature range, a mixed material is obtained after firing is completed, and the second temperature range is lower than the first temperature range; and proportioning the clinker and the mixture according to a preset proportion to obtain the required gel material. According to the method, an external heat source does not need to be added, and the heat value in the coal gangue is effectively utilized, so that efficient consumption of the coal gangue is realized, high-added-value products are prepared, and the selling radius of the coal gangue is effectively widened.
