The invention relates to a reinforced retaining wall structure and a construction method thereof, and the structure comprises a base foundation which is arranged in foundation soil; the inverted filter layers are sequentially stacked on the base foundation; a plurality of layers of geogrids, each layer of geogrid comprises a stress geogrid and a reverse wrapping geogrid, the stress geogrids are arranged in the roadbed filling body in a layered manner, and the reverse wrapping geogrids wrap the inverted filter layer and are folded back in the roadbed filling body; the integral panel is of a flexible cement blanket or a composite material structure, the integral panel is attached to the outer side of the inverted filter layer, and the height of the integral panel is consistent with that of the retaining wall; the connecting components are of a [-shaped structure and are arranged between the inverted filter layer and the overall panel in an array mode, the reverse-wrapping geogrid penetrates through notches of the connecting components, and two arms of the connecting components are connected to the overall panel. The overall panel, the inverted filter layer and the roadbed filling body are organically combined into a flexible and coordinated whole through the geogrids and the connecting components, and the flexible and coordinated whole body is suitable for an ultrahigh-intensity earthquake area.
