The invention relates to the technical field of preparation of waterproof mortar in civil engineering materials, and discloses ardealite-based waterproof mortar and a preparation method thereof. The waterproof mortar is prepared from the following components in parts by weight: 41.6 to 60 parts of phosphogypsum, 4.4 to 6 parts of building gypsum, 30 to 50 parts of slag, 4 parts of cement, 0.15 to 0.30 part of K2SO4, 33 to 39 parts of water, 150 to 225 parts of fine sand, 0 to 5 parts of latex powder, 0 to 4.5 parts of tung oil or 0 to 1.5 parts of calcium stearate, 0.07 to 0.13 part of water reducing agent and 0 to 0.15 part of defoaming agent, and the water-binder ratio is 0.33 to 0.39. The calcined phosphogypsum is used as a base material, cement, slag, lime and other materials are added to prepare the waterproof mortar with an excellent waterproof effect, and tung oil, calcium stearate and other waterproof agents are used to further enhance the waterproof performance of the waterproof mortar, so that the limitation that gypsum can only be used as an air hardening cementing material is broken through.
