The invention relates to a method for adjusting a vehicle door (11), comprising at least the following steps: checking whether at least one body part of a vehicle door user (U) is located in a checking region (24) by means of at least one presence sensor (23A, 23B), and controlling an anti-collision protection device (2) of the vehicle door (11) as a function of whether the body part of the vehicle door user (U) is located in the checking region (24), the anti-collision protection device is designed to monitor possible obstacles (O) in a monitoring region (22), which differs from the inspection region (24), in the surroundings of the vehicle door (11) by means of at least one monitoring sensor (21A, 21B) in order to prevent the vehicle door (11) to be adjusted from colliding with the obstacles (O). The proposed solution further comprises a system for adjusting the vehicle door (11).
