The invention discloses a preparation method of a similar material for simulating mountain tunnel surrounding rock, which comprises the following steps: selecting and determining raw material components for preparing the similar material and a ratio of the raw material components according to a physical and mechanical parameter range of the similar material for simulating the surrounding rock, mixing the determined raw material components for preparing the similar material in sequence, and pouring into a mold; and after initial setting, standing for 3 hours, demolding, standing and naturally air-drying. The raw material components for preparing the similar material comprise 60-70 parts by weight of gypsum, 4-6 parts by weight of wood chips, 3-5 parts by weight of river sand and 25 parts by weight of water. The method for preparing the similar material is simple and convenient, the preparation cost is low, and the prepared similar material has the advantages of being stable in overall mechanical property and wide in physical and mechanical property parameter adaptability.
