The invention discloses an upper nozzle brick for a steel ladle and a preparation method of the upper nozzle brick, and belongs to the field of refractory materials. The composite material comprises the following components in parts by mass: 1) 25-60 parts of granular aggregate which is composed of 15-35 parts of regenerated magnesium-chromium sand particles and 10-25 parts of regenerated magnesium aluminate spinel particles; 2) 19 to 35 parts by mass of co-grinding powder, wherein the co-grinding powder is prepared from 8 to 15 parts by mass of regenerated magnesium-chromium sand fine powder, 5 to 10 parts by mass of regenerated magnesium aluminate spinel fine powder and 6 to 10 parts by mass of alpha-Al2O3 micro powder; 3) 0.6 to 1.2 parts by mass of fiber, wherein the fiber is prepared from 0.5 to 1 part by mass of metal aluminum fiber and 0.1 to 0.2 part by mass of polypropylene explosion-proof fiber; and 4) a modified composite curing agent accounting for 4-6 wt% of the total weight of the granular aggregate, the co-ground powder and the fiber.
