The invention discloses a Zr (Hf) O2-MgAl2O4 composite material, which is prepared from the following raw material components in percentage by mass: 15 to 70 weight percent of zirconium oxide, 20 to 50 weight percent of hafnium oxide, 10 to 60 weight percent of magnesium aluminate spinel, 5 to 10 weight percent of barium zirconate, 5 to 20 weight percent of aluminum zirconate fiber, 3 to 8 weight percent of light basic magnesium carbonate, 1 to 5 weight percent of samarium oxide, 4 to 10 weight percent of polydextrose aqueous solution and 0.5 to 3 weight percent of sodium stearate aqueous solution. The preparation method comprises the following steps: weighing, premixing, granulating, screening, ageing, drying, forming, pre-sintering, sintering at high temperature and the like, wherein the forming and pre-sintering modes are hot isostatic pressing. The Zr (Hf) O2-MgAl2O4 composite material has the advantages that the preparation process is simple, the production cost is low, and the Zr (Hf) O2-MgAl2O4 composite material has excellent thermal shock resistance, slag corrosion resistance and high fracture toughness.
