The invention belongs to the technical field of coatings in gasification furnaces, and particularly relates to a coating for prolonging the service life of a refractory brick of a gasification furnace and a preparation method thereof, and the coating comprises the following raw material components: a matrix raw material, an organic binder, an inorganic binder and water; based on 100 wt% of the total weight of the slurry, the content of the matrix raw material is 1.0-20.0 wt%, the content of the organic binder is 1.0-20.0 wt%, and the content of the inorganic binder is 1.0-40.0 wt%; and the balance of water. Uniformly brushing the slurry on a fire-facing surface of a high-chromium refractory brick of the gasification furnace, and drying in air at room temperature to prepare a fire-facing surface coating; the thickness of the coating is larger than or equal to 0.5 mm and smaller than or equal to 2mm. The fire-facing surface coating of the gasification furnace refractory brick can effectively reduce the loss of chromium content on the surface of the refractory brick, so that the service life of the refractory brick is prolonged.
