A windmill structure (10) includes a tower (16), a substructure (20), a base (22), and a rotor nacelle assembly (12) with blades (14). The substructure (20) comprises a first guide ring (24) and a second guide ring (26) for supporting the tower (16), said first guide ring (24) being located in a lower portion of the substructure (20) and said second guide ring (26) being located in an upper portion of the substructure (20). The substructure (20) comprises a jacking assembly (30) for receiving modular tower segments (18), the tower segments (18) being arranged to be assembled in the substructure (20) and being erectable by the jacking assembly (30) to form an assembled tower (16). The invention also relates to a method for assembling a windmill structure.
