The lower-layer building comprises a first box body module and a first external wall panel, the first box body module comprises a top frame and a bottom frame which are arranged at the top and the bottom respectively, and the top of the first external wall panel is lower than the top of the top frame. The superstructure comprises a second box body module and a second external wall panel, the second box body module comprises a top frame and a bottom frame which are arranged at the top and the bottom respectively, and the bottom of the second external wall panel downwards exceeds the bottom of the bottom frame. The modular building comprises a lower-layer building and an upper-layer building stacked on the lower-layer building. A horizontal structural joint is formed between the bottom frame of the upper-layer building and the top frame of the lower-layer building, and the thickness of the horizontal structural joint is smaller than or equal to 20 mm; a horizontal contraction joint is arranged between the first external wall panel and the second external wall panel, and the thickness of the horizontal contraction joint is less than or equal to 20mm; the horizontal contraction joints and the horizontal structural joints are staggered in the vertical direction, and the horizontal contraction joints are located below the corresponding horizontal structural joints.
