The invention relates to the technical field of formwork supporting construction in narrow and small spaces, aims to solve the problems that in the prior art, when formwork supporting operation is carried out in the narrow and small spaces, standardization, safety and applicability cannot be guaranteed during erecting of a steel pipe supporting frame, and dismantling is difficult, and provides a formwork supporting system suitable for the narrow and small spaces and a construction method of the formwork supporting system. The system comprises a plurality of rows of hinged vertical rods, each row of hinged vertical rods comprises a plurality of hinged vertical rods arranged at intervals, each hinged vertical rod comprises a first section and a second section, and the bottom of each first section is hinged to the top of the corresponding second section; a first horizontal connecting rod is connected between the multiple first sections, and the first sections are hinged to the first horizontal connecting rod; second horizontal connecting rods are connected between the bottoms of the first sections, the first sections are hinged to the second horizontal connecting rods, and meanwhile the second horizontal connecting rods are connected with the first sections in a sliding mode. A plurality of limiting devices are installed on the second horizontal connecting rod, and the second horizontal connecting rod slides so that the limiting devices can abut against or be separated from the hinged type vertical rods.
