The invention provides a ceramic painting glaze rod and a preparation method thereof, and the ceramic painting glaze rod comprises the following raw materials in parts by weight: 70-90 parts of vanadium-titanium slag, 5-15 parts of red mud and 5-15 parts of deironing slag. In the raw materials of the ceramic painting glaze rod, the vanadium-titanium slag, the red mud and the deironing slag all belong to metallurgical slag, and the black ceramic painting glaze rod is prepared from the full-component metallurgical slag. The metallurgical slag is originally calcined tailings, so that the color of the ceramic painting material prepared from the metallurgical slag after high-temperature firing is consistent with the color before firing, color loss is avoided, and the problem that the color of the ceramic painting glaze rod before and after firing is inconsistent is solved. Moreover, by utilizing the characteristic of strong plasticity of the red mud in the metallurgical slag, the ceramic painting requirement can be met without adding other binders in the glaze rod preparation process, and the strength problem of the ceramic painting glaze rod prepared from the full metallurgical slag is solved. In addition, the utilization rate of the metallurgical slag is further increased.
