A speed reducer (10) according to one embodiment is provided with: a carrier (11); a first housing (20) that surrounds the outer peripheral surface of the carrier (11) between both end surfaces of the carrier (11) and is held by the carrier (11) so as to be rotatable relative to the carrier (11) between both end surfaces of the carrier (11); a second housing (30) that surrounds the outer peripheral surface of the carrier (11) and is held by the carrier (11) so as to be rotatable relative to the carrier (11) at a position different from the holding position of the first housing (20) between both end surfaces of the carrier (11); a first speed reduction unit (40) that is held by the carrier (11) and includes a first input unit that inputs rotation from a first side (FS) to which one of the two end surfaces of the carrier (11) faces; and a second speed reduction unit (50) that is held by the carrier (11) and includes a second input unit that inputs rotation from a second side (SS) to which the other of the two end surfaces of the carrier (11) faces.
