A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Window unit
A window unit 401 comprises first and second parallel panels (403, 404; fig. 4), a centre panel 405 with a cable 412 attached and a control mechanism 501 to tension and release the cable to move the centre panel relative to the first panel. The first panel and the centre panel include transparent (406, 408, fig. 4) and non-transparent regions (407, 409; fig. 4) and the second panel is transparent. Tensioning of the cable moves the centre panel in a first direction 807 and releasing the cable moves the centre panel in a second direction (901, fig. 9). The control mechanism may be positioned remotely from the panels and may comprise a spool 504 onto and off of which the cable is wound. The spool may be driven by a handle (105, fig. 1) connected to a drive shaft 503 and there may be a stop (507,510; fig. 5) so that it can only rotate between two fixed angles. The cable may run over a plurality of bearings 802, 803, 804. A method of manufacture of the window unit and a door including the window unit are also disclosed.
