A flat roof system covers at least a part of the top of a building. The flat roof system comprises a water-impermeable layer formed on top of the building, an insulating layer positioned above the water-impermeable layer, and a vapour-breathable layer positioned above the insulating layer. The vapour-breathable layer prevents water passing from above the vapour-breathable layer into the insulating layer. The vapour-breathable layer further allows water vapour to pass from the insulating layer to above the vapour-breathable layer.
