Prefabricated former for pumping station
A prefabricated former 10 for an underground pumping station comprises a main chamber 12 for housing pumps 13 and an antechamber 14 for keeping valve components 15 dry. The main chamber 12 has a side wall with inner and outer layers 16, 18 defining a first cavity for receiving concrete. The antechamber has a side wall surrounding a base wall, and both have inner and outer layers defining a second cavity for receiving concrete. The first and second cavities are in communication, enabling concrete, poured through an opening, to flow from one cavity to the other. When set, the concrete forms a unitary structure. The antechamber may extend at least partially into and out of the main chamber. The former 10 may include at least one opening for receiving a utility conduit 29 and a roof 34 with access openings for the main and antechamber. A method of constructing a subterranean pumping station includes excavating a hole, placing a prefabricated former and introducing concrete into either the first or second cavities so that the concrete flows between the cavities.
