PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an obstacle detection device capable of suppressing detection of an obstacle which has a low possibility of colliding with a sliding door, and an opening and closing device for a sliding door having the same device.SOLUTION: An obstacle detection device 60 for detecting an obstacle at a doorway which is opened/closed by a sliding door moving to an opening/closing direction, comprises: a first detection part 61A and a second detection part 62A for detecting the obstacle; and control parts 61B, 62B for setting a first detection range in the first detection part 61A in the opening/closing direction and a second detection range in the second detection part 62A in the opening/closing direction, depending on a position of the sliding door.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
