PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a slide member superior in conductivity; a material for slide member formation, which enables the formation of a slide member superior in conductivity; and a method for manufacturing such a slide member.SOLUTION: A slide member is to be used as a brush for a DC motor. The slide member comprises: a metal; and graphite. The metal forms island phases 20. The island phases 20 are 3.0 or more in aspect ratio on average, or the content of the metal is 33 mass% or less of the slide member, or the metal includes at least one kind selected from a group consisting of copper and a copper alloy.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
