PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an easy-to-maintain building material at a low cost capable of effectively cooling by retaining water and evaporation.SOLUTION: A building material 8 has a receiving plate 81 with a lower face exposed to the outdoor air. In the lower face of the receiving plate 81, plural holes 81a are formed. Each of the holes 81a in the lower face of the receiving plate 81 has a diameter that generates surface tension in the supplied water dropping through each of the holes 81a in the lower face of the receiving plate 81. The upper plane of the receiving plate 81 is exposed to the outdoor air, and each of the holes 81a in the lower face of the receiving plate 81 is a through hole penetrating through to the upper plane of receiving plate 81.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 10
