To provide a card reader that can be utilized in a disaster prevention system.SOLUTION: A card reader 1 is installed on a wall surface outside a door 5 to be locked and unlocked by an electric lock 42, reads information recorded in a card medium to unlock the electric lock 42, and comprises a main body part 10 installed so as to have a predetermined height from a floor surface of a building. The main body part 10 comprises a card reading part 20 for reading the information of the card medium, and a projection part 23 for projecting and applying light toward the floor surface. The projection part 23 projects a direction display for displaying a direction toward an emergency exit, onto the floor surface when a fire occurs.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
