To provide an automatic door and a method for controlling an automatic door that can achieve protection and the ease of passage when the door is operated, at the same time.SOLUTION: The automatic door includes a control unit. Before it is determined that the door reaches a specified position during the opening process of the door, the control unit performs control of limiting the opening operation of the door when a sensor that is set on the open side of the door and detects a person or an object becomes a detection state. After it is determined that a door reaches a specified position during the opening process of the door, the control unit performs control of not limiting the opening operation even if the sensor becomes the detection state.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
