To provide an obstacle detecting and stopping device which detects presence/absence of an obstacle preventing the movement of a shielding material and can stop the movement of the shielding material with respect to a shielding device for directly pulling a cord for opening/closing the shielding material, and to provide the shielding device.SOLUTION: An obstacle detecting and stopping device 6 detects whether or not at least one of a plurality of cords (lifting cords C1, C2, C3) for moving a shielding material (a slat 3) causes a delay or slack with respect to another cord, and applies a movement resistance so as to stop the movement of all of the plurality of cords when the delay or slack is detected.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
【課題】遮蔽材を開閉させるコードを直引き操作する遮蔽装置に対して、遮蔽材の移動を妨げる障害物の有無を検知し当該遮蔽材の移動を停止可能とする障害物検知停止装置、及び遮蔽装置を提供する。【解決手段】本発明の障害物検知停止装置６は、遮蔽材（スラット３）を移動させるための当該複数本のコード（昇降コードＣ１，Ｃ２，Ｃ３）のうち、少なくとも１本のコードが他のコードに対し遅延又は弛みが生じたか否かを検知し、当該遅延又は弛みを検知した際に当該複数本のコードの全ての移動を停止させるよう移動抵抗を付与する。【選択図】図６
