To provide a method for removing a coating film capable of efficiently removing the coating film from a base material and having no fear of influence on a human body when removing the coating film.SOLUTION: A coating film removing method for removing a coating film F attached to a surface of a base material T made of steel, the method comprising: a cutting step of forming a cut line CL in the coating film F, and forming a cut piece F' completely cut out from the coating film around the cut line CL; and a liquefied cooling gas supply step of providing a liquefied cooling gas to the cut piece F', for removing the cut piece F' on the surface of the base material T while curling up the cut piece F' by contracting the cut piece F'.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
